Insured Remover and Extended Liability Cover
The purpose of this page is to explain to our potential customers the background to Wade Removals deciding to become an 'insured remover', able to offer to its customers 'extended liability cover' and to explain what this means in the context of your requirement for a removal and/or storage.
Background In January 2005, as a result of UK legislation giving force to certain European directives on the selling of insurance, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) took over responsibility for regulating the UK insurance market. Accordingly, with effect from 14 January 2005 any business that advises on, sells or arranges insurance must be authorised to do so by the FSA.
Our Decision As a professional removal company we decided it was in the best interests of our customers to concentrate on the provision of our core removal and storage services. Accordingly we decided not to become authorised by the FSA. We cannot therefore sell you insurance cover in respect of your goods whilst they are dealt with under a removal and/or storage contract undertaken by our firm.
You have a number of options available to you depending on your circumstances.
You can ask your current household contents insurer to confirm whether or not your goods are insured by them for loss or damage during a removal and/or while in storage;
If not, you can ask your current household contents insurer to consider extending cover to include risk of loss or damage during a removal and/or while in storage;
You may ask your insurance broker about arranging specific cover for loss or damage during a removal and/or while in storage.
However, you also have another option:
Extended Liability Cover Our current terms and conditions of business have been modified and we can provide you with the peace of mind that we shall, as a professional firm, take responsibility if your goods are lost or damaged. If you wish to contract on this basis and to take advantage of our 'extended liability cover' you must provide us with a declaration of value and agree to pay the separate charge for such extended liability cover. The charge varies depending on the level of extended liability cover that you require.
If you decide to take advantage of such extended liability cover we shall make available to you the proceeds of any claim that we make under an insurance policy of Wade Removals that we have put into place to cover our liability to you for loss or damage of your goods.
If you do not provide us with a declaration of value and agree to pay the separate charge for such extended liability cover then our liability to you will be restricted.
